UNDER-FIRE Alex boss Steve Holland admitted he knows the board’s faith won’t last forever.
While 50-odd joined the collective calling for his head to roll on Tuesday night, there has been no statement from the Crewe hierarchy.
And that is annoying the less vocal disgruntled, who are calling on John Bowler and co to either publicly back or sack him and address the club’s current predicament.
Speaking after more protests during the 1-1 draw with Peterborough, Holland knows time is running out to turn things around.
“It’s likely to be the case until we string some wins together,” he said.
“I didn’t think the crowd were bad, their support of the team was good.
“It wasn’t any worse than the last home game, I thought it might have been “We know they’re not happy, we’re not happy and the board are not happy.
“The board have been supportive as they always are and we’re trying to bring in one or two players that could strengthen us.
“A couple of wins and it might quickly look better than it is.
“That’s all we can hold on to at the moment.
“The confidence that would come with a win is priceless.
“That faith won’t last forever, I know that.”
Holland was relatively happy with a point against high-flying Posh.
“In the first-half I thought we played decent football but didn’t penetrate enough,” he added.
“I was pleased with the performance but couldn’t see the goal coming.
“I thought we were the better side in the second-half and deserved the equaliser.
“In the end it was probably a decent point for us.
“We have problems we are trying to sort out and everyone is working hard to turn it around “We know we’ve got to bring in some players and there are one or two things we are working on.
“If we had a break tonight, it was long overdue “Now we’ve got to try and build on that on Saturday.”
Michael O’Connor is a doubt with Crewe targeting a loan midfielder before the trip to Huddersfield.
“It’s too early to tell, Michael is a good soldier - he would have to be carried off,” continued Holland.
“But I’m afraid he’s a very important player for us at this stage and I was reluctant to take him off.”
Crewe will entertain Blue Square Premier outfit Ebbsfleet United in the FA Cup First Round next Saturday.
