UNDER-fire boss Steve Holland insisted there is still enough time to save Crewe’s season.

Alex hit rock-bottom of League One after Tuesday night’s 3-2 loss at fellow strugglers Yeovil Town.

Although the board are likely to back Holland to the hilt, fans are growing ever restless at the club’s decline.

Now 18-months into his tenure, the first-team coach says it isn’t too late to stop the rot.

“It is difficult but it is early which makes it easier to turn around,” he said.

“Bottom is not where we want to be, I felt Saturday was a block to build on.

“But obviously we’ve got a lot of work to do and quickly as we’re playing again on Friday.

“So fresh legs will need to be introduced.”

Holland seized on the impact of his substitutes as a positive out of a bad night.

“It is typical I’m afraid and that is why we are where we are,” he added.

“We didn’t play too well in the first-half and we were strong with them at half-time.

“Julien was the pick of our players and when he came off it affected their first goal.

“So we had a bit to do and there was a response but the second goal gave us a mountain to climb.

“We brought on the subs with immediate effect.

“Byron got a good goal that gave the team hope.

“Anthony Elding has then produced the cross for Shaun to score.

“At 2-2 Neil (Baker) said we could go on to win it but I was more interested in not losing it.

“To do so is very disappointing.

“It was a poor clearance from Woody.

“A point wouldn’t have been a disaster especially after the situation we would have put ourselves in.”

With tomorrow’s trip to Tranmere and a Tuesday home clash with Peterborough now key to quashing discontent, Holland may look for reinforcements.

“The inconsistency of the players is still frustrating and we have to address that by seeing if we can bring players in on loan or getting more out of those we've got,” he concluded.
